All practicing therapists need to have supervision. Students receive supervision from their program either in groups or individually. In public clinics or hospitals therapists receive in-house supervision and participate in staff meetings. Some institutions and teaching programs hire supervisors from outside the facilities. I am a certified supervisor, and have provided supervision to Art Therapy students. It is essential for therapists who are in private practice to buy supervision, especially at the beginning of their practice.
However, even though I have supervised therapists for over 30 years, I occasionally still buy supervision for myself and participate in a peer supervision group once a month.
I practice creative supervision employing art, movement, mindfulness, and Gestalt, occasionally recommending articles and other reading materials.
Though I work mainly with adults, I do supervise therapists who work with children and adolescents in a variety of settings.
I provide individual supervision to practicing therapists, creative-arts therapists, and social workers. Sessions are either in-person or online depending on my availability and the therapists’ needs. Occasionally I offer Zoom group supervision, or online group supervision workshops.
