More Shades

At a side table of a water colour and woodcut exhibition I was browsing through paintings for sale when I came across one that intrigued me. It was mainly green, and when I turned it over, the title was “shades of green”. I naturally had to have it. As you may remember, my last blog was titled Shades of Green! The painter, Halina Robinson, was one of the first water colour teachers I hired when I became the director of the Art Craft Studio at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.

Shades of Green

I do not know if it is because it is Summer, and everything is green around here, or I was always attracted to the amazing number of shades of green the fields around here display. The crops are just starting to cover the fields, each one in a different green.

Fire and Flud

For the past few weeks, wild fires all over the north of Ontario, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have devastated large part of the forests and bush. It is very dry, and the smoke and smog are covering large areas. The air circulation does not recognize borders, and the haze reached New York city as well as Ottawa and Toronto.

Milk Street Café

If you ever find yourself in Boston, make sure to visit the only Kosher down town establishment where you can have Dary, Meat, vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten free delicious meals. But make sure you visit between 7am to 3pm or you are out of luck.

INTERSECTIONALITY

If you do not recognize this word do not worry. Neither did I until a week ago. In a nutshell, “intersectionality” describes how individual characteristics – including race, class, gender, age, and more – “intersect” with one another and overlap. It also asks us to consider how this affects people’s different experiences of both marginalisation and privilege.

Mashber – Crisis

The word Shever has at least 13 meanings in Hebrew as well as in English. It can mean Crisis, Fracture, Fraction, Breaking, Brake, Rapture, Splinter, Failure, Collapse, Mishap, Mantissa, and Hernia. That is if we speak of modern Hebrew. There are a few more meanings in Biblical Hebrew.

Revenge

The theme of revenge appears in folk stories from all over the world. It can be found in the Bible, in the Iliad and Odissi, in indigenous tales and in modern fiction. Philosophers and psychologists contributed thoughts and theories about the reasons humans engage in acting so destructively and violently when the feeling of revenge overwhelms them.

Solandra Maxima in Mi’ilyah

According to Google, this flowering plant and its unbelievably gorgeous large flower, belongs to the Solanaceae family. It is also known as “cup of gold vine” and “Golden Chalis Vine” or Hawaiian Lily is actually endemic to Mexico and central America.

Delay is a Blessing in Disguise

No, this is not the idea of mañana, like in delaying for tomorrow tasks that should be done today. However, that is what actually happened unintentionally. We were frantically scurrying to finalize all the tasks left for the last moment before our flight on the next day.

Shoes

On the front page of the Globe and Mail newspaper today (02.11.2022) there was an image that hit me very hard. A large photo of perfectly paired shoes. These were the shoes of the people in Korea who died by trampling at the large Halloween celebration in Seoul.
